XB Phantom Dust review:5 stars (!!Awesome Game!!) - If you payed $20 for this game. It is a good investment. I just completed it. About 108 Missions cleared, about 42 Hours of my time. The graficx are great. Also you have to use your noodle for developing a stradegy for beating a wide range of opponents. The last mission at the Ruins was probably the tuffest part of the game. Took me 2 nights to develop a stadegy to overcome the various forms of the the Dememted Feia. Just don't do like I did and use every last skill in your arsenal. Once you run past the last skill of your arsenal, or use them all up. Your life starts to run out until you die. Kinda unfair, but just a reminder. Well I hope you enjoy this game. I sure did.:)5 stars (A game for thinking gamers. Which is why I suck at it. :-P) - This is an amazing game for 20 bucks and should be in any online xbox gamers collection.
The main storyline is weird but not difficult to understand and is a very unique storyline definitely worth seeing. There is also plenty of challenge to be had in the main quest and can some times be a little frustrating if you aren't prepared to really learn about the skills and instead try to power trough with just a generic deck or two.
The thing I really like about the game is the online play. So many games are about reflexes and so called "mad skillz" but phantom dust rewards the strategic player with victory and the online community tends to be a little more subdued and acceptable compared to high adrenaline communities like halo2. 5 stars (Sleeper Hit of 2005!) - Most games that jump in price immediately usually are junk....But with Phantom Dust it's the opposite!
I went into this game expecting a mindless card type of game but found something much better! Much deeper and well thought out! The idea here is that it has a GOOD story, interesting characters and a fun game engine! You spend your time three ways, 1. running through a war torn world fighting enemies with randomly generated spheres that have "defense", "attacks", "powerups" etc.. 2. running around the base area talking to people and finding missions and 3. in your menu adjusting and strengthening your "Arsenal". What is an Arsenal? it is an attache case filled with skills, you can buy junk to get random ones then keep or sell the ones you don't want etc.. The Arsenal can be customized later in the game when you level up etc.. You can buy Aresenals that hold many more skills etc and its fully customizable similar to some card video games. On the battle field is where it shines because you have to rely on thinking on your feet. Do you use long range attacks? mid range? short range? which defense works best? It works very well once you know basics on your enemies and figure out which person to take along as your partner, each person has different skills and battle tactics. The realm also shines where the characters are a cross between something of Akira, Mad Max and the Matrix *minus the black vinyl clothing* If you are up for a good challenge also then this is YOUR game. The game takes some brains to figure out how to mesh it all together properly to stay alive and further the story trying to figure out who YOu and the guy found with you are...if out on the surface too long you lose your memory, youve been out too long and have NO memory of much similar to your comrades that fight with you. The story, characters and gameplay make it a fun distraction from most games out now so give it a shot, after all it's ONLY $20 most places and its just a fun experience that is deep where it needs it but not TOO deep to where you can't just pick it up and play it, sure it has a medium learning curve but I'm sure most people intrigued by the game will stick around long enough to get better in the game and unlock the story. This is MY sleeper hit pick of 2005 and I can't stop playing it! If you are on Xbox live then you can download NEW skills that have been balanced better by the creators to make the game even more fun. It's worth a rent or even a buy for those that take the time to learn the basics and further themselves as the characters do in the game itself.
