PS2 Full Spectrum Warrior - Software Publisher's Description:
PS2 Full Spectrum Warrior review:3 stars (Tedious) - I bought Full Spectrum Warrior for $20.00, so it's cheaper than the usual $50.00 for newly released games.
I finished the game in about 2 days of steady play. After completion you are awarded 3 bonus epilogue missions. I have not completed these missions as of yet.
There are 2 squads, Alpha and Bravo. Both squads are made up of a Team leader, rifleman, grenade launcher and SAW (squad automatic weapon)
You can direct each squad (A & B) and switch between the 2 using the Triangle button. You can't control an individual squad member as far as movement, only the entire squad.
The object of each mission is similar, flank and out maneuver various "terrorists" set in the mythical country of Zekistan. (see Iraq) It's obvious the bad guys are Muslims because of the odd chanting back ground music in the game.
Moving the 2 squads gets very tedious after awhile. This game is not a conventional shooter, it's more about strategy really. Sticking to cover is the best way to beat the game. Moving a squad in an open area is a great way to get a team member killed. The death of 1 of your squad members is a failed mission and you go back to the save point.
Save points are pretty consistent, move around take out some terrorists and you get a save point. Also in the game are various Casevac areas where a wounded soldier can get healed and you can restock on ammo.
The graphics are sub-par at best, but the CG intro and exit movies are good. Control of the squad is complicated but once you get the hang of it, it's kind of fun to move around and out flank a bad guy. On a couple missions 2 Delta Rangers join your Teams as squad "Charlie" They have laser equipped sniper rifles and quickly kill any terrorists in your way. Advice to anyone, use the Rangers and save alot of time. The accuracy of the normal Alpha and Bravo squads is inconsistent. Either the shoot a guy way far away or miss someone 10 yards in front of them. The best way to avoid getting killed is to stay behind cover at all times.
The 1 hour intro training game, called MOUT, is recommended before playing real missions. Maneuvering the 2 teams requires a learning curve.
So all in all, this is a strategy game, not a flat out run around and shoot stuff kind of game. The environment is closed and there's not much room for movement or exploring, the missions are linear, so replay value is somewhat low.
It seems from my mediocre review that I didn't like the game. The playability factor is good, it's fun to play, and requires a little thought instead of just fast hand-eye coordination. I liked the realistic dialouge filled with cuss words. I think real soldiers probably talk like that.
"Attention Bravo team, Move!"
"That's a kill"
*** out of ***** 1 stars (full spectrum warrior) - this game is a waste of money, you would expect a game with as much hipe as this to at least be moderatly entertaining i was a huge fan of socom us navy seals and this was supposed to be better i played it at my friends house and we were clueless you cant even move your charector you direct it with a cursor thats the 1st of many awful things about this game secondly you cant shoot for your self you can only suppress who buys a war game to sit and watch seriously youd have to be a die hard fan to even but up with this game i tryed so hard to like but it was so tiring i eventually got the hang of moving the man but he says the same thing over and over i have never been more bored in my life this game is a pathetic equse for a war game if u want a high quality war game i recomend socum us navy seals 1 and 2 which involves tactics as well as all out war fare. Lastly you cant kill an enemy you can just supress his i thought 4 high trained soldiers could take out 1 third world merciary well they cant they all die in a pixelated shower of blood5 stars (The Full Account) - If you want a realistic war game buy this one. It is a really good game. It reallys shows what its like in a war. The missions just heaped one on top of the other. It is hard because you don't actually shoot but that helps addto the realisticness because you can't just kill a guy and live forever. To beat this game you have to have either alot of strategy or be really lucky. Do not let an eight year old get this! There is alot of cussing and it probably isn't good for young kids to see peoples brains getting blown out.
