Blood Rayne 2 review:5 stars (Forget Lara Croft, Rayne is the new Queen of video games) - I bought the first one back in 2003 when I was stationed in England. I had never heard of it, but based on the images I saw on the back of the box, it seemed like it had a similar over-the-shoulder 3rd person perspective like Shadow Man, Tomb Raider, etc. I bought it and loved it. Bloodrayne 2 has everything the first one had and more.
It takes place about 65 year after the first one left off, with Rayne still searching for her father, the Vampire Overlord Kagan. The game opens up with an FMV of Rayne in a sexy black dress arriving at a party thrown by one of her many vampire siblings whom she wishes to destroy.
The graphics, audio, gameplay, controls...everything is greatly improved in this sequel. A couple of cool additions are the feed fatality moves. There are 12 of them in the game designed as an alternate to just feeding off an enemy until he dies. You can start feeding to get your health up and then kill him/her while feeding to get a boost in your rage meter.
Speaking of which, you can also increase the size of your health and rage meters by performing puzzle kills. Basically, this is when you can kick/slash/harpoon an enemy into a fireplace, out a window, or over a railing on a higher floor. When this happens, an icon encompassing both meters slides up. When it goes all the way to the right, the meters fill up, and the icon slides back to the left. This keeps happening until your meters reach maximum size (which is almost 2X the original size). this helps immensely in the later parts of the game where the enemies get significantly harder to defeat.
Overall, a wonderful playing experience with some sweet extras that are all available when you finish the game. Among these are different costumes for Rayne, a level select, and a trailer for the upcoming Bloodrayne movie.
If you liked the first game, you'll LOVE this one. If you've never played the first one, get it first then get this one. There are a couple of references to Brimstone Society in this one which will go over a person's head if they didn't play the first one. (For those of you who haven't played the first one, Brimstone Society is the organization that asked Rayne to join their ranks at the beginning of the original Bloodrayne after observing her fighting skills against a couple of vampires).
Other than that there are little or no references to the first one, but I would playing both...and the 3rd installment that will inevitably come out based on how well Bloodrayne 2 has been received. 5 stars (Gotta love her) - I m relatively new to the whole XBox experience, but I can definitely say BR2 almost immediately rose through the ranks to become my favorite game (and it s up against Halo/Halo2, Soul Caliber 2, Prince of Persia, DOA). Someone mentioned already the satisfaction this game provides as a destress device, on bad days it s unbelievably satisfying to be flinging fantasy people into fans and causing dismemberment. Strong woman character probably adds to that for me. Visually, unequalled by other games. After getting through the game an untold number of times, I now go through trying to beat my old gameplay times (which the save screen gives you), so it never seems to get old. Enjoyably bizarre (getting to tell a friend asking what you re doing, well, I m trying to kill a vampire in a giant people suit wielding a suncannon with my gun in BloodHammer mode.) A really nice mixture of killing puzzles, acrobatic puzzles, boss fights to make the gameplay vary. While the gore and the subject matter make it so this game isn t for everybody, I will personally be waiting impatiently for the next installment.5 stars (Bloody Good Time!) - WARNING: this game is not for children!
Blood Rayne 2 for the xbox is an action/horror game played in third-person view that seemlessly combines fantastic fighting and shooting elements! You play as a good half human/vampire named Rayne who's out to avenge her family's death and tries to stop evil vampires from taking over the modern world. As Rayne kills each vampire higher up in the ranks, the missions become more deadly as she fight armies of thugs, demonic creatures and others with powers like her own. Rayne posseses super strength and speed. She can slow down time (think of the matrix movies), freeze time and see through walls. She is equipped blades attached to her forearm and you will be using them to hack n'slash at enemies, when you press the right combination of buttons, Rayne will do "fatality" executions that would put other games to shame. The fatalities are exaggerated and gruesome, with tons of blood spraying and severed limbs gore! When you see the moves Rayne can perform your jaw will drop. She can combine martial arts moves and gun blasting like no other! This is all complimented with excellent controls and long action packed levels! This game is actually a far superior sequal than its predecessor (original Blood Rayne for XBOX). The engine was reworked and everything in the gameplay is amazing!
